“Rabbi Steve, My only regret was not being in NY for Yom Kippur. The service was not only by far the most interesting and fun, but to me the most meaningful too.”
Sim Shalom’s High Holiday services will be held on Thursday September 5th (Rosh Hashanna) and Saturday September 14th (Yom Kippur) at 10am each day.
Those who cannot be in New York City can still watch live services streamed from Sim Shalom’s Ustream channel. Staff from Sim Shalom “chat” with viewers from around the world to keep the services participatory and engaging.
Last year, Sim Shalom hosted High Holiday services at Small’s Jazz Club in Greenwich Village. A jazz trio accompanied Rabbi Blane, the Founder and Rabbi of Sim Shalom.
But space was tight- and the services sold out, so this year Sim Shalom’s staff went in search of a larger space. “Why not Stand Up NY, the Comedy Club down the street?” asked Rabbi Blane’s daughter, Megan. The club was receptive to the idea and is looking forward to hosting services.
This year a jazz quartet will accompany Rabbi Blaneand will perform a concert style service with traditional prayer melodies.
Tal Ronen, who arranged all the songs, will play bass, Jack Glottman will be on keyboard and Eran Fink will play drums. This year the group will welcome Itai Kriss on the flute.
And what did people have to say about last year’s experience?
“I just wanted to reach out and say thank you for the Rosh Hashana service at Smalls. Wow. I have had few experiences that brought together so many things that I feel strongly about all in one place.” Craig G
“Rabbi Steve, my only regret was not being in NY for Yom Kippur. The service was not only by far the most interesting and fun, but to me the most meaningful too. I never thought fun and the High Holidays could be combined but you and your team did it masterfully.” Jamie S
Tickets are available on Sim Shalom’s website.
